It all started 4 years ago, when he was returning home from his office. After getting down from the train at Dumdum Cantonment station, a teenager boy rushed to him and begged him. When he refused to give him a rupee he started nagging and pulled his trousers. He got embarrassed and tried to make him stop but that boy wasn’t ready to listen to anything. He thought that the boy was addicted to drugs or something else that’s why he needed money. In reality the boy was not an addict. He was forced to beg by his mother. Otherwise his mother didn’t give him food during the day and at night either. Most of the time, he used to go to sleep empty stomach at night.
He realised that something needed to be done to make the lives of such kids beautiful. He started an evening school on the platform at Dumdum Cantonment station and started to give poor kids (most of them are street kids) free lessons. Later his school was shifted to an auto union’s room, which is situated beside Dumdum Cantonment station. He did all the hard work and completed all the formalities to admit all kids in government schools. Now all his students are going to school. All students come to the school from Monday to Saturday for free lessons.
He arranges tiffin for them daily. Sometimes volunteers of Helpp Association and some kind hearted people arrange a lunch/dinner for these kids. At present he runs the school in a rented room. His main objective is to bring these children back into mainstream society and help them to become financially self-dependent so that they don’t need to beg.
